Chemistry

Chemistry is the scientific study of the properties of matter, and how these properties change under different circumstances. A branch of the physical sciences, much of Chemistry draws on principles that are studied in Physics. As with all Natural Sciences, Chemists rely upon a combination of empirical observations and mathematical equations to predict the behaviour of the substances they study. The two major forms of chemistry are Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. Organic Chemistry is the study of chemicals that contain Carbon, while Inorganic Chemistry deals with all chemicals that do not contain Carbon. In order to undertake a Masters (MSc) in Chemistry, an academic background in the physical sciences is required. In addition to academic research, students with a MSc in Chemistry have a great many options in industry – particularly regarding analytical chemistry, toxicology, and chemical engineering. Many Chemists go into teaching.
