The Johns Hopkins Online Certificate in Geographic Information Systems offers you a scientific foundation in spatial data modeling, analysis, and visualization. The program is geared to part-time professionals and focuses on geospatial data analysis and visualization in a Web-based environment. *Available entirely online, it will provide you with a convenient, interactive platform to explore GIS and its role in the rapidly developing field of cloud computing. The program takes a highly innovative and unique approach to GIS education, teaching you the latest trends in spatial data processing, analysis, and visualization using a multimedia delivery scheme. You'll also gain invaluable experience in GIS Web-based application development in a cloud computing environment, furthering your understanding of software design, software lifecycle management, database security, and Web architecture. The Certificate in GIS requires that you take five of six core courses in the GIS curriculum. These same courses are the core courses of the Master of Science in GIS. Students who want to continue on for a MS in GIS can do so after completing the Certificate in GIS by being admitted to the MS program by completing a Change of Program Form (a mini application) , and, once admitted, completing the five additional courses (four electives and a capstone project) necessary for the MS degree (10 courses total).
