Course Overview

The curriculum addresses the cutting-edge needs of a digitized world for designed systems and products by incorporating experimentation with state-of-the-art technologies together with comprehensive research practices. This Industrial Design program is offered by Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). The minimum requirements for the two-year MID degree for a student with a previous degree in industrial design are: Forty-eight credit hours of coursework, including: Graduate Studies in Industrial Design, Human-Centered Design, Graduate Studio I, Graduate Studio I, Eighteen credit hours of electives, which must be approved by the program. Three-year Track, Many students wishing to study industrial design at the graduate level but who do not have an undergraduate degree in Industrial Design find a home in the, three year Master of Industrial Design (MID) program. This innovative program allows students to attain or sharpen their design skills in a preliminary year of study before moving into the (MID) graduate-level studios and coursework. Even in the preliminary year program, the assignments, research and courses of study emphasize design projects in the areas of product development, interface design, and human-centered design in order to maintain consistency. Students who do not have an undergraduate degree in industrial design will need to successfully complete up to an additional 28 hours of preliminary coursework, which at a minimum, includes: One year of undergraduate industrial design studios, Advanced Sketching, History of Industrial Design Industrial Design Computing I and II, Professional ID Practices
