Course Overview

LLM Intellectual Property Law offers you a comprehensive programme on law, management and policy relating to patents, copyright, trade marks and other rights. You will examine international and comparative perspectives that cover traditional IP issues like industrial property, literary and artistic works and brands. You will also have the opportunity to study new and emerging areas of policy including the digital economy and biotechnology. Our programme reflects the growing importance of international developments in IP, and confronts growing controversies such as the relationships between IP and human rights norms, access to knowledge, health and economic development. You will explore the international norms and institutions relating to intellectual property such as the World Trade Organisation-s TRIPS Agreement, and consider the wider social and economic implications of intellectual property for health, culture, education, technology, innovation and economic development. Career possibilities: LLM Intellectual Property Law will enable you to embark upon a career in the legal professions, in knowledge-intensive commercial sectors, and in other occupations where in-depth understanding of intellectual property is economically or strategically important, such as government service and in intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations. The programme is also accessible to non-lawyers.
