MIT founded the Center and MSRED Program in the same spirit that it established its world-renowned engineering schools ' to apply academic discoveries to practical problems in effective, creative ways. Mirroring MIT's multidisciplinary approach, the MSRED program investigates every field that impacts the real estate industry ' from design and development to construction, management, finance, and the law. With the expertise available only from a premier technical institution, we draw on resources that include the MIT School of Architecture and Urban Planning, the School of Engineering, the Department of Economics, and the Sloan School of Business Management. We seek focused, committed applicants who want to apply their intellectual gifts to the task of building better living and working environments for people around the world. Most students come to the MSRED program with considerable experience in the industry. Our unique community of learning joins a diverse group of students and professionals, all sharing a passion for scientific rigor applied to concrete problems in development. MIT's Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED) is the most concentrated, science-based graduate degree in real estate available. Launched in 1983 by the MIT Center for Real Estate, the MSRED is the first one-year degree of its kind, fulfilling a need for specialized education beyond the scope of the traditional MBA. The MSRED prepares men and women to compete in the global market with superior qualifications ' providing the research-based expertise necessary to solve complex problems in contemporary real estate.
