Part Time Courses for Environmental Sciences

The Environmental Sciences encompass a multi-disciplinary field of study of both the environment, and environmental problems. Composed of the rocks, soils, waters, living things and atmosphere of the Earth, the environment is profoundly complex. Over the course of the 20th century, it became clear that a wide variety of different scientific disciplines would need to work together in order to understand the Earth system. As such, the Environmental Sciences brings together disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Soil Science, Geology, Atmospheric Science, Oceanology, Botany and Zoology, to provide the most accurate models possible of the Earth, and how the Earth is likely to change in the future. Applied disciplines – such as Engineering and Architecture – also engage closely with the Environmental Sciences. Masters in the Environmental Sciences are in increasing demand as companies and governments become more concerned about the impact of their operations upon the planet, reflecting how environmental protection legislation is becoming increasingly strict. In addition to research, there are therefore considerable opportunities in this space for consulting and compliance – either on a freelance basis, or as a permanent member of staff within a larger organisation.
